Gordon College Women's Basketball hit the road for their second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest of the young season as they traveled up to Biddeford, Maine to face the University of New England (UNE) Nor'easters. Despite outscoring their hosts, 19-15 in the fourth, the Nor'easters were able to defeat the Fighting Scots, 75-63.
Gordon's
Isabella Rivera recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, sister
Ami Rivera netted a team-high 17 points, while
Naomi Nicholson registered 15 points and four assists.
UNE's
Jordyn Franzen had a game-high 27 points and
Kaylee Beyor added 10 in the win.
How It Happened
- Brynn Barnhard put the Scots up 9-6 with just over six minutes to go in the first, but the Nor'easters settled down to go on top 16-11 after the opening quarter.
- Gordon found themselves down by 12 in the second frame, but chipped away to make it a seven-point game at halftime (34-27).
- In the midst of a 26-point third quarter by the home team, the Fighting Scots continued to battle back, carrying a 16-2 run into the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to just 10 points after a three-point play from Barnhard. UNE was able to widen the gap to 17 with 3:15 to go in regulation, but the Rivera sisters came back with seven straight points down the stretch. However, UNE was able to hold on for the league win.Â
