How It Happened
- In a high energy, fast paced start, neither side was able to find the bottom of the net until A. RIvera hit a layup at the 7:45 mark. With the score, 6-2 in Gordon's favor, UNE scored seven straight points to go on top, 6-9. Anderson tied it up for the blue and white a minute later after hitting one from downtown (9-9). However, UNE regained the lead to hold a 17-12 advantage after the quarter.
- Four consecutive freebies from the foul line lifted the score to 16-17 with UNE still in the lead, but once again UNE widened the gap to make it a 26-17 with 5:21 in the frame. The final six points until the half was scored by the Fighting Scots as the home team came within one point (25-26) at the half.
- Both sides went shot for shot to open up the third quarter, as Gordon flipped the script for the first time since the first quarter thanks to an A. Rivera jumper to put Gordon up, 32-31 (5:18). The Scots had the upper hand for the remainder of the frame, leading by as many as five before UNE hit a late jumper to make it a one-point game heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
- An early layup swung the pendulum into UNE's court (43-44), but the Scots continued to battle to eventually string together an 8-0 run midway through the quarter to go on top by 10 (57-47) with 1:51 to go in regulation. Not going away easy, UNE cut the deficit to four with 16 seconds on the clock, but the Fighting Scots finished strong to secure the gritty 65-58 victory.
