Gordon College Men's Tennis kicked off their spring campaign this evening as they welcomed the Colby-Sawyer Chargers to the Manchester Athletic Club where the visitors came away with a narrow 5-4 win over the Fighting Scots.
In doubles, the Chargers drew first blood with an 8-3 victory over the Scots in No. 1 duo, but the blue and white answered back with an 8-3 tally of their own thanks to newcomers
James Wellborn and
Lucas Barnes in No. 3 action to even the score up at 1-1. However, Colby-Sawyer was able to pick up another win (8-4) on court No. 2 to hold a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
Ezekiel Hall made quick work of his counterpart in No. 1 singles as the veteran won, 6-0, 6-2. Then,
Jeffrey Bodner later held his own in the No. 2 slot after taking down his opponent, 6-2 before coming away with a gritty 7-5 win. Senior
John Marineau's 6-3, 6-0 win on the No. 6 court made brought the overall score to 4-4. In a well played matchup, Wellborn was narrowly edged out by the Chargers in the No. 5 battle (7-6, 4-6, 6-10) as the visitors escaped with the 5-4 win over the Scots.
The Fighting Scots return to action on Monday, March 6 as they face off against Lebanon Valley College in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
