Scots Dominate Lasers In Home-Opener, 12-3

After three road games to open up the 2023 season, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse returned home and welcomed the Lasell University Lasers to the Brigham Athletic Complex this afternoon where the Fighting Scots dominated the turf to seal their third victory of the young season, 12-3.

For the Fighting Scots, rookie Caroline Piorkowski collected a game-high four goals while Hailey Beling was right behind her with a hat-trick followed by Alexis LaPia, Mikayla Lecci, Kaitlyn Mini, Brooke Roberti and Jocelyn Noyes who each added one goal in the effort. Kayla Davidson held down the fort for the Scots in goal as the sophomore rounded up nine saves in 60 minutes of action.

The visitors were led by Teresa Kessner who earned a pair of goals followed by Kaitlin Bedell who chipped in another goal.

How It Happened
  • The Lasers got on the bored quickly after netting a pair of goals within a two minute span to take a 2-0 lead with 11:59 left in the first quarter. Gordon retaliated with a pair of goals to end the frame at a 2-2 stalemate.
  • In the second, the blue and white went on a tear, rocketing in four straight tallies to go on top, 6-2 at halftime.
  • Less than 60 seconds into the third quarter, Lecci booked her second goal of the day, widening the Scots' advantage to five goals (7-2). However, Lasell was able to get one into the back of the net for the first time since early in the first quarter, bringing the score to 7-3 heading into the fourth.
  • The Scots continued to show no mercy as they Piorkowski immediately net her third goal of the evening just under two minutes into the final frame to make it 8-3 before a free position goal from Mini followed by another tally from Piorkowski to bring Gordon to double-digits (10-3). With 36 ticks remaining, LaPia decided to add to the goal parade before the Scots tacked on another goal with a mere one second on the clock to bring down the hammer and lock in the 12-3 win.
