Eighth Inning Rally Boosts Lumberjacks Over Scots

Gordon College Baseball continued the RussMatt Florida Invitational this evening as they faced the Northland Lumberjacks where the squads ping-ponged the advantage before the Fighting Scots fell to their opponents, 7-10.

How It Happened
  • Andrew Hartman got the Scots going early in the first with a line drive double perfectly placed in left center to score Ben Chase to get on the board, 1-0. After CJ Demers moved Hartman over to third, the veteran was able to cross the plate after taking advantage of a wild pitch to grab the 2-0 lead. However, the Lumberjacks were able to shrink the gap to one to bring the score to 1-2.
  • Gordon's James Ensign added a run to his squad's tally in the fourth with a powerful double down the left field line to make it 3-1 before the Fighting Scots tacked on another in the fifth with a classic Shane Demers double (4-1). However, the Lumberjacks retaliated in the home half of the fifth to even out the score at 4-4 before taking the advantage (5-4) in the seventh.
  • It wasn't long before the Scots reclaimed their lead as Dalton Cody rocketed a double to left to score C. Demers moments before Robert Dunkle followed him up with another RBI single to give Gordon the two-run edge (7-5). After a rain delay, the Lumberjacks hit the field hungry to score as they went on a hitting spree to get on top, 10-7 before shutting the Scots down to seal the victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Andrew Marzetta earned a career-high eight strikeouts in seven innings of work tonight.
  • The Fighting Scots hit the field for their final game of the RussMatt Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, March 11 where they square up against the Clark Cougars at 12:30 p.m.in Davenport, Florida.
