Scots Sweep Lions In Home-Opener

After returning home from Florida after competing in the PFX Games, Gordon College Softball invited the Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) Lions for a twin bill where the Fighting Scots came from behind twice for a clean sweep in the home-opener. The Fighting Scots took game one by a score of 4-3 and game two, 10-4.

Game One
  • In the top of the second, ENC strung together four hits to plate a trio of runs to take an early, 3-0 lead.
  • The Scots were held scoreless until the home half of the fourth when Ami Rivera hit a ball through the right side to score Mara Little for the Scots' first run of the game.
  • Feeding off the momentum of scoring a run for her squad, Little went to work in the circle, sitting the Lions down in order in the following two inning to keep Gordon within two runs.
  • Emily Peterson led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and quickly moved over the second thanks to a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt from Little. Isabella Rivera caused some confusion on the right side of the infield, allowing Peterson to get on her horse and score from second to put the Scots one run away from a tie ball game. Continuing the rally, A. Rivera again ripped a single to right field, moving sister I. Rivera to third. After A. Rivera took second on a first and third situation, Jayden Johnson belted a 2-RBI double to straight-away center to flip the script in the Scots' favor for a 4-3 lead.
  • Returning to the rubber, Little surrendered just one hit in the visitor's last at bats to secure the victory.
Game Two
  • Down, 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Abby Murray got the Scots on the board thanks to a hard hit single up the middle to score pinch runner Violet Manson. Gordon tacked on two more before I. Rivera laced a 2-RBI single right down the left field line to put Gordon on top, 5-1.
  • ENC got two runs back in the top of the fifth, but the blue and white got those back and more thanks to a monstrous 2-RBI double to left center off the bat of A. Rivera to bring the score to 9-4 in favor of the home team.
  • Gordon added one more run to make it 10-4 before the umpires called the game due to darkness after the bottom of the sixth.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Rookie Emily Graham picked up her first victory on her home field.
  • Jayden Johnson has now booked two RBI's in three games this season.
  • The Fighting Scots hit their home diamond again on Thursday, March 23 when they host the Lesley Lynx for a double-header at 3 and 5 p.m.
