A. Rivera Knocks Three Out Of The Park In Loss To Owls

Gordon College Softball traveled out to western Massachusetts this afternoon for a non-conference twin bill against the Westfield State Owls. The Fighting Scots scored early in both, but the Owls were able to come away with a sweep after winning game one, 11-8 and game two 8-3.

Game One
  • With two down and Emily Peterson on third, Ami Rivera doubled to right center to bring Peterson home for the first run of the day. Then, Jayden Johnson stepped up to the plate to lace one back up the middle to score A. Rivera to make it 2-0 in favor of the Fighting Scots.
  • The Owls put one up on the board in the home half of the first before the Scots once again put together a two out rally thanks to an A. Rivera three-run blast to make it a 5-1 ball game.
  • Westfield's bats came alive, however, scoring 10 unanswered runs to take their first lead of the game, 11-5 after five innings.
  • Gordon continued to fight, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth before tacking on another in their last at bats, but the Owls came away with the 11-8 win.
Game Two
  • A. Rivera belted another dinger in the home half of the first with sister Isabella Rivera on first to make it 2-0, Gordon.
  • Westfield locked it up in the home half of the first and went on top by one and inning later (3-2).
  • For the third time on the day, A. Rivera knocked one out of the park to tie the score at 3-3 in the top of the fourth.
  • However, the Owls scored five in the bottom of the fifth to secure the eventual 8-3 win in sixth innings (game called due to darkness).
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots return to action on Tuesday, March 28 to play the Salem State Vikings on the road for a double header starting at 4 p.m.
  • This marks the fourth straight game the Scots have had double digit hits.
  • In game two, A. Rivera's two-homers was the first time she has done that in her young Fighting Scot career. In total she hit three between the two games.
