Scots Earn First Sweep Of The Season In Auburndale

Gordon College Softball returned to the Auburndale Softball Complex for day three of the PFX Games. The Fighting Scots started off the day with a dominant 7-2 win over the Geneva College Golden Tornados before sealing their first sweep of the season against their fellow Fighting Scots from Monmouth College, 4-1 thanks to a sixth inning rally.

Gordon vs. Geneva
  • The Scots came to play as they were the first squad to get on the board in the first inning after taking advantage of a first and third double steal. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Mara Little kept the Fighting Scots solid in the field as she held the Golden Tornados scoreless before Gordon's Hannah Bouvier roped a single up the middle to send Little across the plate and lengthen their edge to two. The next batter up, Emily Graham launched a sacrifice fly to center to bring the score to 3-0 after three.
  • However, Geneva chipped away in the top of the fourth to make it a one-run game (2-3). The score was at a standstill until Jayden Johnson stepped up to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to crank one over the left field fence to give the Scots a more comfortable lead, 5-2. After keeping the Golden Tornados to just one hit in the field, the Scots returned to the plate ready to hit as they tacked on two more runs off of four hits to lock in the 7-2 win.
Gordon vs. Monmouth
  • Monmouth wasted no time getting on the board, scoring one run in the bottom of the first to take the early edge. Gordon attempted to get back the run as Graham started off the Scots with a single to left but was unable to make it home.
  • Freshman Brooke Husson did her job in the circle, holding her opponents to just three hits in Monmouth's next four at bats to freeze the score at 0-1.
  • It wasn't until the sixth when Gordon broke it open as the Rivera sisters got the Scots going with back to back singles before they were both able to cross the plate thanks to a Graham single to give Gordon the 2-1 advantage. Gordon took the field to shut down Monmouth as relief pitcher Graham sat down all three batters she faced.
  • In their final at bats, Gordon was able to add on two more runs to their tally before turning down Monmouth to take the 4-1 comeback victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Rookie Jayden Johnson hit her first home run as a Scot against Geneva.
  • Freshman Emily Graham booked her first win in the circle in game two.
  • The Fighting Scots hit the diamond again tomorrow, March 7 to square up against Misericordia at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex in Kissimmee, Florida with the first pitch at 11:30 a.m.
