Scots Split On Fourth Day Of PFX Games

Gordon College Softball faced off against the Misericordia Cougars in game one before squaring off against the Husson University Eagles later in the day. The Fighting Scots started off the day with a 5-3 win against the Cougars before falling to the Eagles, 0-11 in the nightcap. 

Gordon vs. Misericordia
  • With runners on the corners, Isabella Rivera stepped up to the plate and beat out an infield single to the shortstop to bring teammate Emily Peterson home for the game's first run. A batter later, Ami Rivera laced a double to left center to score Mara Little and put a two spot up on the board. Hannah Bouvier as well as Emily Graham each knocked in a run to give the Fighting Scots a 4-run cushion after one inning of work.
  • Misericordia got back one run in the top of the second before Little's second hit of the game brought home Abby Murray for the blue and white's fifth tally of the day.
  • In the circle, Little sat her counterparts down in order in the fifth before the Scots used a double play in the sixth to limit the COUGARS? rally to just one run to keep the score at 5-3 in favor of Gordon.
  • Down to their final three outs, Misericordia made some noise with runners with runners at first and third with one out, but the Scots held strong and came away unscathed to preserve the 5-3 victory.
Gordon vs. Husson
  • The Eagles made their presence known right away as a home run in the bottom of the first gave Husson the early 1-0 edge. The green and gold carried their momentum into the next inning, as the Eagles sent another over the fence to bring the score to 4-0, forcing a pitching change before tacking on two more to head into the third with a 6-0 lead. 
  • Gordon's Peterson started the Scots off in the third with a bunt single down the third base line however, she was unable to score. The Eagles continued to be an offensive threat as they grabbed another five runs in the home half of the third to make it 11-0 before holding the Fighting Scots scoreless to end it early after five. 
Beyond The Box Score
  • Mara Little had her first three-hit game of the season as well as recording three out of the Scots' four season wins from the circle after taking the win in game one. 
  • Rookie Abby Murray earned her first collegiate hit today against the Cougars. 
  • The Fighting Scots have a day off before they return to the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven, Florida on Thursday, March 9 when they battle the Thomas Terriers at 2 p.m.
