Scots Light It Up In 9-2 Win Over Gators

After a day off, Gordon College Baseball returned to the Northeast Regional Park for the RussMatt Florida Invitational where they took on the Russell Sage Gators. After nine innings of dominance, the Fighting Scots took the 9-2 win.

How It Happened
  • Gordon's Eduardo Eble-Lacouture commanded the mount, registering four strikeouts in the first two innings. It was a pitcher's duel until the Fighting Scots busted out the bats in the third when Andrew Hartman sent a one-hopper to the right field fence, scoring Shane Demers and Jonathan McIntyre to take the 2-0 advantage. However, the Gators were able to get one on the board in the next inning before Eble-Lacouture shut them down to hold tight of the Scots' one-run edge (2-1).
  • Gordon was quick to reclaim their two-run lead in the home half of the fourth to bring the score to 3-1. In the top of the fifth, Russell Sage attempted to cut their deficit as they were able to load the bases but relief pitcher Luke Yamashiro struck out the next batter swinging to get out of the inning scoreless.
  • The Scots went on to score three more runs in the home half of the fifth before adding another three runs to their tally in the sixth after a trio of hits from CJ Demers, Dalton Cody, and Ben Chase to give Gordon a more comfortable lead, 9-1. The Gators were able to add another run to their tally late in the game but the Scots remained in control to seal the 9-2 dominant victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Rookie Hunter Simpson earned his first collegiate hit and RBI today.
  • The Fighting Scots return to Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida tomorrow, March 9 to square up against the Drew College Rangers for a double header at 2:45 p.m.
