After taking a break from Conference action, Gordon College Men's Lacrosse invited the Wentworth College Leopards to the Brigham Athletic Complex for a Common Wealth Coast Conference (CCC) match-up where the Fighting Scots battled back to come within one before taking the eventual 10-11 loss.
For the Scots,
Joel Bean,
Jackson Wright and
Marco Fernandez guided their squad with a pair of goals each, meanwhile,
Ryan Arthur helped the Scots out with three assists. On the defensive end,
Aidan Walsh chipped in five ground balls in the effort.
The Leopards were led by
Logan Maklan who single-handed scored more than half of Wentworth's goals, accounting for six goals while
Drew Bouley added four helpers to his stat sheet.
How It Happened
- Wentworth came out firing, immediately getting on the board before the first minute was up (14:10) before tacking on three more (4-0) before Gordon's Bean got his squad on the board with a laser to the back of the net. The Leopards retaliated with a goal a minute and ten seconds later, but the Fighting Scots added another tally to their score with 1:56 remaining to enter the second frame, 2-5.Â
- The Leopards opened up the second quarter with a goal to extend their lead to 6-2 but the Scots retaliated with back to back goals from Fernandez and Wright to close the gap, 4-6. The teams traded goals until Wentworth net a pair of goals to take the 9-5 advantage heading into the second half.
- After the break, JOEL Bean got the momentum going for the Scots with a goal at the 11:37 mark, catalyzing a three-goal run to make it a one-goal game (8-9), however, the Leopards were able to sneak one goal in in the remaining minutes to go into the final 15, 10-8.Â
- Fernandez brought the Scots within one less than two minutes into the fourth (9-10) before Wentworth answered back with a goal of their own to regain the two-goal edge. It wasn't until 3:11 remaining when Ryan Stephen Long laced one past the Leopards' keeper to make it 10-11. However, despite multiple attacks on the Leopards' net, the Fighting Scots were unable to tie it up in the remaining time as Wentworth was able to seal the 11-10 CCC win.Â
Beyond The Box Score
