Scots Roll Past Leopards In Second CCC Victory

Returning to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this afternoon, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse welcomed the Leopards of Wentworth to the Brigham Athletic Complex where the Fighting Scots cruised to a 23-7 victory over the Leopards for their second CCC win. 

For the Fighting Scots, Hailey Beling knocked in five goals and added three helpers, while Abbie Zorrilla and Caroline Piorkowski had identical offensive stats with four goals and three assists a piece. Additionally, Kaitlyn Mini chipped in four goals and two assists, while Jocelyn Noyes booked a hat trick and one assist. In net, Sophea Zaskoda made six saves.

Wentworth had two goals and assist from Jenny Montville, while Helen Hamblett added one goal and one assist.  

How It Happened
  • The Fighting Scots raced out to a commanding 6-0 lead just five minutes after the opening draw before Wentworth cut the deficit in half by sending in three straight tallies to make it 6-3 with 8:34 remaining in the first. Gordon got back on track to score five straight to stretch it out to an eight point advantage (11-3) heading into the second quarter.
  • Gordon continued to dominate offensively in the second, scoring four consecutive goals before the Leopards tacked on one in the final seconds to bring the score to 15-4 at the half.
  • In the second half, the blue and white rocketed in four goals in each quarter to outscore the Leopards, 8-3 and some away with the 23-7 win. 

Beyond The Box Score
  • Hailey Beling had a career-high five goals and three assists. 
  • Jocelyn Noyes booked a career-high three goals for her first hat trick of her Fighting Scot career.
  • Abbie Zorrilla had a career day for the junior, as she scored four goals and had three assists which were both career highs. 
  • Gordon reached their season high with goals scored today (23).
  • The Scots hit the road this week as they travel to Newport, R.I. on Tuesday, April 4 for another CCC tilt against the Seahawks of Salve Regina at 4:30 p.m.
