Hitting the field today after nearly a week lay-off, Gordon College Softball traveled to Bristol, Rhode Island for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) double-header against the Roger Williams Hawks where the Fighting Scots swept the home team, 4-3 and 6-5, respectively.
Game One
- After two scoreless innings, the Fighting Scots got on the board after an Emily Peterson single to right center, scoring Hannah Bouvier. A batter later, Isabella Rivera reached on a Hawk miscue, allowing Peterson to cross the plate to give Gordon the 2-0 lead.Â
- RWU got one run back in the home half of the third before tacking on two more in the fourth to go on top, 3-2.
- With one down in the top of the seventh, Peterson and I. Rivera came came through yet again to not only tie it up, but plate the go ahead run and regain the upper hand, 4-3.
- Senior pitcher, Mara Little allowed put the exclamation point on the win after striking out the final batter in the bottom of the seventh to secure the one-run victory.Â
Game Two
- A. Rivera belted an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the first, scoring Peterson who led off the inning with a single up the middle.
- Rookie left-hander Emily Graham kept the Hawks at bay in the circle, allowing just two hits in the first three innings before the Hawks were able to tie it up at 1-all thanks to a four hit fourth inning.Â
- After a bases loaded walk to give Gordon another run, A. Rivera hit a bases clearing double through the right side to make it a 5-1 ball game. A. RIvera later came around to score on a wild pitch, giving her squad a 6-1 advantage.
- RWU added one run in the bottom of the fifth before a three-run sixth inning to cut the Scots' lead to one run (6-5).
- Returning to the circle was senior Little who shut down the Hawks in the seventh, once again striking out the last chance for RWU to earn the 6-5 win.
Beyond The Box Score
- The Scots return to the dirt tomorrow as they host the Wentworth Leopards for a twin bill with first pitch at 12 p.m. on Gordon's softball field.
- In game one, Little booked her second highest number of K's on the year with five.
