Golden Bears Sweep Scots In CCC Opener

After a couple days of postponements due to weather, Gordon College Softball was able to hit the diamond today as they traveled out to Western New England to square off against the Golden Bears to open up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The Golden Bears won both by scores of 5-2 and 10-2.

Game One
  • The Golden Bears got on the board early after a piece of smart base running in the home half of the first (1-0). Holding the narrow one-run advantage, the Golden Bears' Cori Rizzo lifted one out of the park to make it 4-0 in favor of the home team in the bottom of the fourth.
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Emily Peterson laced a single to left field, scoring Hannah Bouvier and Gina Terrazzano to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
  • WNE got one of those runs back in the home half of the inning, before keeping the Scots off the board the rest of the way to secure the 5-2 win.
Game Two
  • WNE scored twice in their first at bats before the blue and white strung three straight singles together in the top of the second to make it a 2-1 ball game.
  • A Jayden Johnson double brought another run home for Gordon an inning later, but WNE continued to add to their tally to come away with the 10-2 win in five innings.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots return to CCC action as they host the Suffolk University Rams on Tuesday, April 4 at 2:30 p.m.
