Gordon College Softball continued Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this afternoon as they hosted the Suffolk University Rams for their second CCC double-header of the week. In the first game, the Fighting Scots battled back but were unable to grab the win, narrowly falling to the Rams, 3-4 before turning the tables in the nightcap to end it early in five, 16-1.Â
Game One
- Starting pitcher Mara Little came out firing as the veteran forced three ground balls in a row to get to their first at bats quickly. However, Suffolk was able to find a few gaps in their second time up at the plate, grabbing the initial 2-0 edge. The Rams went on to double their score in the fourth (4-0) but the Scots retaliated with a run of their own in the fifth thanks to a Little single that scored Abby Murray and got the home squad on the board, 1-4.Â
- The Scots held Suffolk scoreless before tacking on another run in the sixth after relief pitcher Emily Graham placed a single down the left field line to bring the score to 2-4 heading into the final frame.
- In the seventh, Gordon kept their guests scoreless before Ami Rivera started to stir up the Rams with a hard hit ball to bring Murray home and make it a one-run game. However, the Fighting Scots were unable to put another run up on the board as they took the eventual 3-4 loss.Â
Game Two
- Even though the Rams were able to score one in their first ups, the Scots immediately busted out the bats, crossing the plate six times after stringing together a mix of walks and hits to take the dominant lead, 6-1. Gordon went on to add another tally in the second before lengthening their gap to double digits (13-1) in the third topped off by a bases clearing line-drive double to left center by Little.
- Little held Suffolk to just one hit before the Scots got back in the batter's box to do more damage as Gordon's A. Rivera sent a monstrous triple to the fence to make it 15-1 before going ahead 16-1 heading into the fifth before sealing the win after five after shutting down the Rams in their last chance, earning their first CCC win of the 2023 season.
Beyond The Box Score
- The Fighting Scots hit the diamond again when they invite the Endicott College Gulls for a CCC match-up at 3 & 5 p.m.
