Scots Split With Seahawks In Twin Bill

Gordon College Softball welcomed the Salve Regina Seahawks to their home field today for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) twin bill where the Seahawks edged the Fighting Scots in game one in nine innings, 7-6 before the Scots took care of business in an 8-5 victory in the night cap.

Game One
  • The blue and white went on the board first after Ami Rivera scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first.
  • An inning later, the Fighting Scots' Mara Little and Abby Murray led off the frame with back to back doubles to ignite a three run inning (4-0).
  • Salve Regina came within a run in the top of the fourth after using three hits to plate three (4-3).
  • Isabella Rivera knocked one up the middle to plate an insurance run for the Scots in the sixth (5-3).
  • The Seahawks rallied in this last at bats to score a pair of runs and force extra innings.
  • Both sides were successful in bringing a run across the plate in the eighth, but Salve Regina went ahead in the ninth and held on for the narrow 7-6 extra inning victory.
Game Two
  • With two down and the Rivera sisters at second and third, Little rocketed a two-rbi single up the middle to once again put the Scots out in front early, 2-0.
  • Gordon tacked on one more in the second before adding another in the third to go on top, 4-0.
  • Salve Regina came within one run after a three-run fourth, but the Scots came right back with three of their own to maintain the lead, 7-3.
  • Hannah Bouvier flashed some leather up the middle in the fifth to keep the visitors off the board before Salve added two in the sixth, but the Fighting Scots remained in control to take the 8-5 W.
Beyond the Box Score
  • In her longest outing in her young Fighting Scot career, Emily Graham went the distance (9.0), striking out five and allowing just four earned runs.
  • Rookie Abby Murray belted her first and second career double in game one.
  • Freshman Gabrielle Olsen recorded her first multi hit game of her Fighting Scot career.
