Gordon College hit their home diamond this afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) twin-bill against the Nichols College Bison where the Fighting Scots celebrated their lone senior,
Mara Little, in style as they started off the day with a dominant 9-4 victory over their guests before falling to the Bison, 1-5 in the nightcap.Â
Game One
- Starting pitcher Little immediate made her presence known on the mound, sitting down three Bison in a row. It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Bison were able to get on the board, 2-0 before the Scots retaliated in the home half of the inning with five runs off of five hits including back to back doubles from Ami Rivera and Jayden Johnson to take the 5-2 advantage.Â
- Nichols was able to shrink their deficit to two in the next frame (5-3) before the Scots passed the bat in the box, as Abby Murray and Emily Graham strung two singles together to score three Scots and bring the score to 8-3. Next, Isabella Rivera was able to tack on another run for her squad after ripping one deep in the five-six hole to bring home Murray to head into the sixth, 9-3.Â
- The Bison were able to get a runner on in the sixth but Little kept her opponents at bay, forcing two ground outs to second before closing out the top of the sixth with a line-out to second. In Nichols' final ups, the Bison were able to round up two hits before the Scots shut them down to seal the 9-4 CCC victory.Â
Game Two
- The Bison wasted no time as they took advantage of their first at bats, scoring four runs off of two homers (4-0). However, the Scots held their guests scoreless for the next three innings before Johnson added another RBI to her stat sheet after singling up the middle to bring I. Rivera across the plate (1-4). Although, Nichols was able to cross the plate one more time in the fifth to go up, 5-1.Â
- The Fighting Scots attempted to close the gap in the sixth as I. Rivera got the Scots going with a double to left field, however, Gordon was unable to cross the plate before taking the eventual 1-5 loss.Â
