UNE Takes Two From Scots In Final Regular Season Match-Up

Gordon College Softball traveled to Biddeford, Maine this morning for their final regular season double-header against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foes, Nor'easters of the University of New England (UNE) where the Fighting Scots were swept by their hosts, 5-1 and 8-0.

Game One
  • Isabella Rivera attempted to get the Scots going early on in the first with a single to left field but she was unable to cross the plate. It wasn't until the third when the Fighting Scots got on the board thanks to a towering Ami Rivera triple to the opposite side, scoring Emily Peterson who led the inning off with a rope to center to give Gordon the 1-0 edge.
  • Meanwhile, starting pitcher Mara Little was dominant in the circle, holding the Nor'easters to just two hits in the first four innings, however, UNE was able to get their bats going in the bottom of the fifth scoring three runs off of a trio of hits to take the 3-1 advantage heading into the sixth. The Nor'easters continued their scoring spree in the next inning, tacking on a pair of runs after a back to back sacrifice fly and hit to short to bring home the runner at third to extend their lead, 5-1. In their final chance to score, Gabby Olsen sought a two-out rally after lacing a single through the right side, but it wasn't enough as the Scots took the 5-1 loss for game one.
Game Two
  • UNE was able to get on the board first this time with one run in the first frame, however, the score remained 1-0 until the fifth when the Nor'easters started another late game hitting parade to make it 5-0. The Scots tried to cut the deficit in the sixth as I. Rivera found herself on first by way of a laser through the left side but UNE retaliated with three hits in a row to load the bases before all three Nor'easters crossed the plate to end the game early 8-0.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Ami Rivera has reached base safely in 13 out of the Scots' 18 Conference match-ups and at least once against every CCC team.
  • After completing their regular season with an overall record of 18-22 (7-11 CCC) the Fighting Scots will battle in the CCC tournament and will begin post-season action on Wednesday, May 10.
