Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lapp Powers Scots To 1-0 Win Over Firebirds In Season-Opener

Gordon College Women's Soccer kicked off their 2023 campaign by hosting the Carthage College Firebirds at the Brigham Athletic Complex this afternoon where the Fighting Scots immediately entered the win column after defeating the visitors, 1-0.

How It Happened
  • The Scots and Firebirds traded shots in the early minutes, before the blue and white found their groove midway through the frame with multiple shot attempts sailing just high of the netting. Then, in the 37th minute, rookie Eowyn Lapp tucked a perfectly placed ball passed the Carthage keeper to put her squad up, 1-0. Gordon ripped off two more shots to close out the half as the score remained, 1-0.
  • Gordon picked up right where they left off in the second half, maintaining possession for much of the second and not allowing a single shot from the visitors.
  • With just under 10 minutes remaining, Lapp nearly added an assist to her stat sheet after the rookie sent in a pass to teammate Kristi DiRico, but the Firebird's keeper came out to keep it a one goal game.
  • Carthage secured a corner kick with under 60 ticks left on the clock, but the Scots' defense held strong to came away with the 1-0 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Eowyn Lapp tallied her first collegiate goal in the first game today.
  • This marks the second year in a row a freshman has recorded a goal in their season-opener.
  • The Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Sunday, September 3 to host the Westfield State Owls at 3 p.m.
