Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Golden Bears Survive Scots' Gritty Defense

Gordon College Women's Basketball welcomed the Golden Bears of Western New England (WNE) this evening and in a low scoring game the Golden Bears were able to escape with the 54-44 win over the Fighting Scots.

The Scots' Naomi Nicholson recorded a game-high 16 points, Isabella Rivera netted nine points while grabbing five rebounds, and Sydney Noyes booked eight points and four rebounds.

For WNE, Shaina Cooney had 11 points and five rebounds, Tara Laugeni added 10 points, while Caitlyn Hunt chipped in nine.

How It Happened
  • After the Golden Bears doubled up the Scots in the first quarter, neither squad could find the bottom of the net in the second with the visitors up 26-11 at the half.
  • The blue and white came out hot after the break, disrupting WNE's game plan as they went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to six at the 7:08 mark. WNE came back with three layups, but Nicholson stormed right back with her second successful bruise and the bucket of the frame to eventually trail 36-28 going into the fourth.
  • Gordon continued to battle, going shot for shot with the Golden Bears, but the visitors were able to hold on for the win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Gordon's strong defensive performance limited the Golden Bears to the fewest amount of points they have scored all season.
  • In three of the four past games, Naomi Nicholson has scored in double digits.
  • The Fighting Scots hit the road this weekend as they travel to face the Hartford Hawks at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 20.
