Scots Take On Plymouth State Tri-Match

The Gordon College Volleyball team hit the road for a tri-match in Plymouth, N.H. The Fighting Scots took a 3-2 win in a nail biter against the Wolves. The Scots lost in the second game against Plymouth State, 3-1.

Gordon vs. Western Connecticut
  • The Wolves took the opening set 25-15 despite a gritty start from the Scots.
  • Olivia Fleming and Annika Schmitt orchestrated a strong attack as they dished out assists to lead the Scots to a 25-19 win in the second set (1-1).
  • Joey Keltner and company fought hard to take the lead but eventually dropped the third set 27-25 to the Wolves (2-1).
  • Annie Murphy and Annie Zimmerman led the charge in the fourth for the Scots. Eventually, Amanda Pierce closed out a 25-23 win in set with a service ace (2-2). 
  • The Scots slammed the door on the Wolves in the fifth set(15-8). A trio of kills from Keltner and a service ace from Schmitt secured the 3-2 win. 
Gordon vs. Plymouth State
  •  The Fighting Scots fought hard in the first set. The Panthers went on to win in the first set 25-16. 
  • Annika Schmitt started the second strong with an ace bringing them to a 5-0 lead. Annie Murphy, Joey Keltner, and Haley Hutzler led the Scots to a victory in the set with a 28-26 win. 
  • Trying to keep up a fight throughout the third set, Olivia Fleming helped to bring the Scots back in the end with an ace and an assist on a kill by Maria Clarabuch. The Panthers held on to win the set, taking a 2-1 lead. 
  • The Panthers held on in the fourth set to take the 3-1 win over the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Olivia Fleming set her career high in assists with 22.
  • The Fighting Scots travel to Bristol, R.I. to take on Roger Williams Saturday, October 19.
