Scots, Nor'easters Lock Up At 3-3 On Senior Day

Gordon College Women's Soccer stepped on the turf at the Brigham Athletic Complex this morning to host the University of New England (UNE) Nor'easters as the Fighting Scots celebrated Senior Day. In a high-scoring affair, the Scots and Nor'easters concluded the game in a 3-3 tie.

How It Happened
  • After breaking her defender's ankles near midfield, Ava Forbes-Smith took the ball down the left side of the field shaking off a few more Nor'easter defenders before tucking a shot in past the UNE keeper to put Gordon up, 1-0.
  • A failed clear attempt from the Nor'easters prompted another scoring opportunity for the blue and white. Eowyn Lapp fed Ada Forbes who made a crisp pass to Forbes-Smith near the top of the box. Then, Forbes-Smith ripped in her second tally of the half to widen the gap to 2-0.
  • The Nor'easters turned on the jets in retaliation, netting two goals before the end of the frame to even out the score at 2-2 at halftime.
  • Midway through the second half, UNE was able take the lead after the ball bounced around in front of the box (3-2).
  • With a ball that seemed to be out of reach, Lapp made magic happen as the sophomore slid the ball out to a speedy Amy LaRue coming down the lane. LaRue roped the ball past a diving UNE goalie to lock the score up at 3-3.
  • In the final three minutes, keeper Emily Bengtson made two crucial saves, the first being a diving save before the junior secured a free kick to keep the score knotted up at 3-3 for the final.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Gordon celebrated seniors Kaitlyn Mini, Madeline McNeilly, Grace Forsey, and Kristi DiRico before today's game.
  • In the past four games, Ava Forbes-Smith has reached the two-goal threshold in three of those games.
  • Amy LaRue's game-tying goal was the first of her Fighting Scot career.
  • The Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Tuesday, October 29 to welcome the University of Hartford Hakws at 4 p.m.
