Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lapp's Hat-Trick Sends Scots To CNE Semifinals In Victory Over Roger Williams

This afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the No. 3 ranked Gordon College Women's Soccer team hosted the No. 6 Roger Williams University (RWU) Hawks for the Conference of New England (CNE) First Round. Down by one, going into the second half, the Fighting Scots netted three in the second half to secure the 3-1 win to advance.

How It Happened
  • From the opening whistle, both squads traded possession with neither side pulling ahead to control the tempo. Then, in the 43rd minute, the Hawks lined in a cross finding the head of Julia Robbins to go on top, 1-0. Gordon had a couple of opportunities to tie it up going into the break, but the school held 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
  • After Hawks' foul was committed on Ava Forbes-Smith, Eowyn Lapp stepped up just outside the box to take the free kick. The sophomore frozen roped the ball into an impossible space between the goalie's hands and the cross bar to lock up the scoreboard at 1-1 (56:03).
  • Lapp answered the call yet again in the 77th minute, booting a free kick from 30 yards out, past a diving keeper to give Gordon their first lead of the afternoon (2-1).
  • Playing to final whistle, Gordon continued to press on offensively. Lapp caused havoc on the Hawks' defenders before using her left foot to rip in her third goal of the afternoon (3-1) to secure the win for the blue and white.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Eowyn Lapp's three goals is the second time this year the sophomore has scored three or more goals in a game.
  • The Fighting Scots head up to Biddeford, Maine on Tuesday, November 5 to take on the No. 2 seed University of New England Nor'easters.
