Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

McGuinness Nets 1,000th Career Point As Lyons Escape Scots In Final Seconds

For their second straight home contest, Gordon College Men's Basketball welcomed the Lyons of Wheaton College to Kanas Court. In the tight duel, the Lyons knocked in a shot with nine seconds left on the clock to clinch the 72-70 win.

Gordon's Bernie McGuinness booked 17 points and five boards, Sean Quanico added 14, while Ryan Brooks knocked in 11.

Wheaton's Tristan Herry led the effort with 15 points, while Duncan Bubar netted 14.

How It Happened
  • The Lyons bolted out to an 8-0 run before the Fighting Scots chipped away to knot up the scoreboard thanks to a McGuinnes three pointer (15-15) with 13:09 on the clock. From there, the Scots and Lyons traded narrow leads down the stretch with the home team out in front, 42-37 at halftime.
  • Gordon held the upper hand after coming out of the locker room, but the visitors hit a jumper midway through the frame to lead 53-52. Similar to the first half, both sides traded shots and slight advantages for much of the duration. Treyton Tebbs tied the game up at 68-all with two minutes remaining after sinking two from the charity stripe.
  • In the final 59 seconds, Wheaton drained a jumper to take the lead, but Quanico drove to the hoop for a layup to tie the score up once again. The Lyons were able to have the last say with a layup with nine ticks left in regulation to come out with the 72-70 win.

  • The Scots are now off until Tuesday, November 26 as they take the short trip to Salem, Mass. to play the Vikings at 7 p.m. before Thanksgiving.
