Gordon College Women's Basketball tipped off the 2024-2025 season in New London, Conn. against the Coast Guard Academy. The Bears fended off the Scots from taking over their home court winning 77-52.
The Fightings Scots were led byÂ
Woynitu Ciccarello who scored 19 points while bringing in four rebounds,
Ami Rivera who put up eight points with six rebounds, and
Sophie Peters' eight rebounds.
For the Bears,
Dorothy Scotts hit 25 points while
Kelly Hagerty,
Glory Blethen, and
Julia Mann contributed 18, 12, and 10 points, respectively.Â
How It Happened
- Ciccarello took the lid off the net draining a three pointer for the Scots' first points of the season. Rivera quickly followed with a jumper of her own to take an early lead. The Bears took a 20-11 lead after the first quarter.
- Ciccarello's hot hand continued as she put up seven points in the second quarter. The Bears held a 39-23 lead at half.
- Efforts from Rivera, Ciccarello, and Peters brought the Scots within eight points in the third. But the Coast Guard regained their rhythm maintaining the lead with a score of 57-44 going into the fourth.
- Peters went to work cleaning the glass securing opportunities to cut the deficit for the Scots. However, the Bears went on to win 77-52.

- Woynitu Ciccarello's 19 points is the most in a freshmen debut from the Scots since 2019.
