Game Recap: Softball |

Titans, Cardinals Narrowly Edge Scots In Twin Bill

Entering day three of the Spring Games Tournament, Gordon College Softball faced off against Westminster and OtterbeinĀ at Legends Way. The Fighting Scots played it tight, but fell to their counterparts, 2-1 and 6-5, respectively.Ā

Gordon at Westminster

  • It was a scoreless two innings for both sides, before a Liahna Messier shot down the left field line caused the Titan's left fielder to mishandle the ball, allowing Hailey Conde to blow past third to score the game's first run (1-0).
  • The Titans strung a trio of hits together in the home half of the fourth to double up the Fighting Scots, 2-1. From there, Westminster kept the blue and white off balance at the plate with timely pitching changes to hold on for the narrow victory.

Gordon vs. Otterbein

  • OtterbeinĀ took advantage at the plate in the top of the first, scoring a pair of runs off of two hits. Not to be outdone, the Scots bested their counterparts in the bottom of the frame with a three-hit performance. With one on, Ami Rivera rocketed an RBI-double to left center field to score Emily Peterson all the way from first base. Then, with two outs,Ā Maya Harris continued to make solid contact in the box as the sophomore laced a hit up the middle to score A. Rivera and make it a 2-2 ball game.Ā
  • The Cardinals chipped away and regained a two-run lead after heading into the bottom of the third (4-2). It was déjà vu in the third as the Scots nearly put up an identical stat line to tie the game up once again. Peterson walked and later stole second base to put her in scoring position as A. RiveraĀ belted a double to right center field to score Peterson. Two batters later, Harris stepped up to the plate to rope a single through the left side to once again score A. Rivera (4-4)
  • The visitors added another run to their tally in the fourth to take the go ahead, 5-4. Both sides scored one more time in the sixth, as Otterbein came away with the one-run win.

Beyond The Box ScoreĀ

  • Liahna Messier made her first start in the circle in game one.
  • In just her second collegiate game, Maya Harris recorded threeĀ hits, with two of them both knocking in runs.
  • Ami Rivera notched her first multi-hit game of the season with three against Otterbein.
  • Gordon looks to their off day tomorrow before a doubleheader on Thursday, March 7 at the Sleepy Hollow Complex starting at 12:45 p.m.Ā
