Scots Triumph Over Bulldogs In Day Four Split

After a day off yesterday, the Gordon College Softball team took to the diamond as they faced the Fontbonne University Griffins and DeSales University Bulldogs, where the Fighting Scots split on the day, 1-6 and 7-6, respectively.

Gordon vs. Fontbonne
  • The Griffins took control early with two runs in the top of the first. However, an Isabella Rivera RBI-double in the bottom of the second, split the lead in half at 2-1 in favor of Fontbonne.
  • After tacking on one more run in the top of the third, Fontbonne was held scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning thanks to right-hander Sierra Ricci who did not allow a hit during that span.
  • Gordon began to rally in the sixth with runners at first and second, but were unable to make the comeback.
Gordon at DeSales
  • I. Rivera singled through the left side to start off an exciting first inning, as the next batter up Emily Peterson laid down a perfectly place sacrifice bunt. Smart base running by I. Rivera sent the junior all the way to third base before Ami Rivera knocked in her sister to plate the first run.
  • The Bulldogs matched the score in the home half of the inning, but the Fighting Scots produced six hits in the next three innings to go up 6-1. Answering back in the bottom of the fourth, DeSales put a five spot on the board, to tie the game at 6-6.
  • Peterson laced a triple to right center in the top of the sixth as the blue and white looked to regain the lead. Pinch hitter, Emily Graham, stepped up to the plate and rocked a single back up the middle to score Peterson and the go-ahead run. Graham then entered the circle only surrendering one hit in the final six outs to secure the victory in favor of Gordon.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Sophomore, Emily Graham, recorded her first save of the year, while freshman, Morgan Passolo recorded her first win.

  • Freshman, Lauren Parker, notched her first RBI, as she recorded her first and second career hits.
  • The Fighting Scots continue tomorrow, March 8 as they play Hiram at 1:30 p.m. and Chatham at 6:15 p.m.
