Scots Secure Sunday Split With Suffolk

After a quick turnaround from last night, Gordon Softball drove back down to Boston, Massachusetts to take on the Rams of Suffolk University, where the blue and white took game one by a score of 9-4, before dropping game two in extra innings, 5-4.

Game One
  • In the home half of the first inning, the Rams went up 3-0 as they were able to string together three opportune hits.
  • However, the Fighting Scots looked to counter, with two ducks on the pond as Isabella Rivera sent a long ball over the left field fence, bringing the score even (3-3) in the top of the second.
  • Gordon tacked on one run each in back-to-back innings as the blue and white laid down timely hits after a few miscues from the home team. The Rams looked to counter as they scored one run (5-4) after the fifth inning, but it would be as close as they would come to regaining the lead.
  • The blue and white looked to stretch its lead in the sixth inning, as they doubled up the Rams by scoring three more go-ahead runs (8-4).
  • Lauren Parker came up to bat in the seventh inning, and doubled to right. Pinch runner, Sierra Ricci, was then brought home by Ami Rivera single up the middle, securing the victory for the Scots, 9-4.
Game Two
  • Morgan Passolo hit a single to right field in the top of the second, scoring Samantha Perkins, giving Gordon the early 1-0 lead.
  • Suffolk matched the Scots in the home half of the fifth with a run of their own to lock the score up at 1-1.
  • Looking to break the stalemate, Gordon combined two crucial hits as well as capitalizing off of a couple of Suffolk errors to go on top 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Rams, however, chimed right back in their final at bat as they evened it at 4-4, forcing extra innings. Suffolk was able to plate a run in the bottom of the eighth to pull off the comeback win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Ami Rivera went a perfect 4-4 from the plate, marking her first spotless offensive performance this season.
  • Isabella Rivera has now reached a career-high in home runs at three on the season.
  • Lauren Parker hit her first double as a Fighting Scot.
  • Morgan Passolo tied her season-high of four strikeouts in game two.
  • The Fighting Scots return to their home diamond, Friday, April 19 for a twinbill against Western New England starting at 2:30 p.m.
