Gordon College Men's Lacrosse welcomed the University of New England (UNE) Nor'easters this evening for their final contest of the 2024 season where the Fighting Scots outscored the visitors in the second half but UNE was able to survive to claim the 16-10 win.Â
For the Fighting Scots,
Marco Fernandez led the way with six goals and one assist,
Ryan Long chipped in one goal and one assist, while
Colton Poole,
Ryan Arthur, and
Aidan Walsh all booked one goal.
William McCormick scooped up five ground balls and caused four turnovers,
Nicolas Flemmi added six ground balls,
Cullen Davey recorded five ground balls, while Walsh won 21 of 30 face-offs with nine ground balls.Â
UNE's
Shea Fogarty had a game-high seven ground balls and added three assists,
Sam McGregor registered two goals and two helpers, while
Collin Jackson added two goals.Â
How It Happened
- UNE drew first blood in the opening minutes but Fernandez evened out the score 40 seconds later (1-1). However, the Nor'easters went on a 9-0 run before Fernandez found the back of the net once again for Gordon's second tally of the night. UNE added one more goal to their total to bring the score to 11-2 at halftime.
- Fernandez continued to roll, rocketing in two early goals in the third frame. UNE answered back with one goal, but Long closed out the quarter with another in Gordon's favor to shrink the deficit to 12-5.
- In the fourth, Gordon caught fire, outscoring their counterparts 5-4, but UNE was able to hang on for the win.
