Nor'easters Pull Away From Scots In Second Half

In their final game of the 2024 season, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse welcomed the Nor'easters of the University of New England (UNE) to the Brigham Athletic Complex this afternoon where the Nor'easters used a big second half to come out with the 19-8 win.

For the Fighting Scots, Caroline Piorkowski had a team-high three goals, Kaitlyn Mini added two goals and one assist, while Emma Darling, Rachel Mincone, and Brooke Roberti each chipped in one goal. Both Abbie Zorrilla and Gaby Roman contributed one assist. Defensively, Jordan Miller collected five ground balls and caused four turnovers, and keeper Laureen Leggett recorded 18 saves in 45 minutes of action in net.

UNE's Abby McHallam registered five goals and one assist, Morgan White had four goals and one helper, while Sydney Balotin had two goals and as many assists.

How It Happened
  • UNE was the first squad to find the back of the net as the visitors went on top 2-0 in the opening minutes of the first. Mini, however, split the difference at the 12:38 mark. The Nor'easters tacked on two more tallies before Mincone once again cut the deficit in half for the home team (4-2), but UNE scored the final goal of the frame to make it a 5-2 game.
  • The visitors widened the gap to 7-2, three minutes into the second, but the Fighting Scots went to work, finishing the second quarter on a 3-1 run to trail by just three at halftime (8-5).
  • Piorkowski fired in the Scots' sixth goal (8-6) of the afternoon to kick off the third quarter, but the Nor'easters roared back to hold the 13-7 advantage going into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
  • In the fourth quarter, UNE found the back of the net six times to secure the eventual victory.
