Scots Host Hawks To Celebrate Senior Day

In rescheduled Sunday Commonwelath Coast Conference (CCC) action, Gordon College Softball welcomed the Hawks of Roger Williams University (RWU) to their home diamond as the Fighting Scots celebrated Senior Day. The visitors swept the blue and white, 10-0 and 8-3.

Game One
  • RWU took advantage of a Scots' miscue in the field to plate one run in the home half of the first, but the Fighting Scots were able to limit the damage with a clean relay throw to get the runner out at third base to end the inning. In the following inning, the Hawks once again made some noise as they widened the gap to 4-0.
  • After two scoreless frames from both dugouts, the visitors were able to tack on two in the fifth and four in the sixth to end the game early, 10-0.
Game Two
  • Ami Rivera flashed some leather and put her range on display at shortstop in the top of the first inning, as the junior secured two pivotal outs to keep the Hawks off the board.
  • In the top of the third, the visitors jumped out to a 3-0 advantage before scoring once more in the fourth to lead 4-0.
  • Gordon split the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth, using a pair of hits, combined with RWU miscues to make it a 4-2 ball game.
  • The Hawks put another run on the board in the top of the fifth, and the Scots followed suit as a Liahna Messier double brought A. Rivera home (5-3).
  • RWU added to their total in the final innings to secure the eventual 8-3 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Before today's games, Gordon celebrated their two seniors Jayden Johnson and Sierra Ricci.

  • At shortstop, Ami Rivera matched her season-high of six assists.
  • The Scots take a break from conference play as they host the Lesley University Lynx on Tuesday, April 30 at 3 p.m.
