Scots Sweep Colonels In Senior Day Thriller

Gordon College Baseball took to J. Tec White Field today for a doubleheader against the Curry College Colonels where the Fighting Scots took care of the visitors, 12-9 in game one before walking it off in game two by a score of 10-9. Before today's game, the Fighting Scots celebrated their five seniors: Jason Bellefeuille, Dalton Cody, Andrew Hartman, David Melendez, and Ismael Rivera.

Game One
  • The Fighting Scots opened up the bottom of the first inning in a big way, stringing together five hits to go on top, 5-0.
  • Starting pitcher Tyler Sprince shut the Colonels down early, scattering just two hits in the first five innings to maintain the five-run lead.
  • Gordon widened the gap to seven runs after scoring two more in the sixth (7-0).
  • Curry continued to chip away at a comeback, scoring four in the seventh, but the blue and white answered right back plus one in the bottom of the frame (12-4).
  • In the top of the ninth, the Colonels once again tried to come back, but the Fighting Scots held on strong for the 12-9 win.
Game Two
  • Once again, the Scots raced out to an early lead as the home team scored three times in the home half of the first.
  • The visitors roared back to plate four runs in the top of the second to take their first lead of the afternoon.
  • Not satisfied with the one-run deficit, Gordon connected for four straight singles off the bats of Evan Clark, Dalton Cody, David Melendez, and Ismael Rivera to regain the lead, 6-4 going into the fourth inning.
  • Curry knotted up the score in the sixth (7-7) before flipping the script again to hold the 8-7 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Rivera belted a single to right center to score Cody to lock up the scoreboard at 8-8.
  • The Colonels went ahead in the eighth inning (9-8) and held onto that slim lead going into the bottom of the ninth.
  • With runners on the corners, Robert Dunkle laid down a bunt where Cody was able to avoid the tag and make it a 9-9 game.
  • Jacob Blake stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 10th with two outs where the junior sent a shot in the right center gap to score Clark and win the game 10-9.
