The Gordon College Fighting Scots traveled to Springfield, Mass. to take on the Western New England (WNE) Golden Bears. The Bears took a 57-45 win over the Scots in a defensive minded match up.
The Fighting Scots were led by
Ami Rivera who scored 17 points,
Leah McGarvey scored eight points, while
Sophie Peters put up five points and secured eight rebounds.
For the Golden Bears,
Lilly Hedge scored 14 points,
Sophie Hedge scored nine, while
Perry Blasetti put up eight points.
How It Happened
- The Fighting Scots exploded onto the scene from the jump. They took a commanding 8-0 lead over the Bears. The Bears answered by scoring ten straight to take the lead. McGarvey hit a jumper off an assist from Woynitu Ciccarello to tie it up 10-10 going into the second quarter.
- The Scots and Bears traded blows to regain the lead throughout the tight second quarter. Naomi Nicholson set Jayme Kiser up with a jumper to close out the half up 17-16 over the Bears.
- A highly defensive third quarter led to a 32-24 lead for the Bears.
- The Scots battled hard to regain the lead in the fourth. Within the last minute of the game, the Scots scored eight points. However, the Bears held on to win 57-45 on their home court.Â
