Scots Ice Colonels, 55-53

Gordon College Women's Basketball took the court in Milton, Mass. Wednesday night to tip off against the Curry College Colonels. The Colonels brought the Fighting Scots down to the wire, but the blue and white prevailed to take a 55-53 win.

Ami Rivera rained down 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Scots, Leah McGarvey hit 16 points and secured eight rebounds, while Naomi Nicholson scored 10 points.

For the Colonels, Lauren Morse scored 18 points, Kasey Reeves scored 10 points, and Lauren Dunn scored eight points.

How It Happened
  • The Fighting Scots locked in to a defensive battle in the first quarter. McGarvey and Brynn Barnhard were effective cleaning the glass as the duo grabbed three rebound each in the first quarter. The quarter ended in a 6-6 tie.T
  • Curry hit a three to start the second quarter but McGarvey responded with a three of her own the next possession. The teams continued to trade threes as Jayme Kiser hit from the beyond the arc only to be matched by Curry after. The Scots went into the half down 24-23.
  • McGarvey put on a clinic as she scored six points in the third quarter. The freshman's efforts helped lead the Scots to a 36-34 lead at the end of the third.
  • Rivera converted an and-one in the beginning of the fourth to give the Scots a three point lead (39-36). Rivera made another three point play from downtown to bring the Scots lead to nine points in the final minutes of the game (53-44). Then the Colonels made a final push to bring the game back within three points with under a minute left. However, Rivera put the game on ice as she cashed in on two clutch free throws. The Scots won 55-53. 
Beyond The Box Score 
  • Leah McGarvey hit career highs in points scored (16) and rebounds (eight). 
  • Brynn Barnhard recorded a career high 11 rebounds.
  • The Fighting Scots tip off next against Endicott on Kanas Court Saturday January 25.
