Gulls Run Away In Second Half To Top Scots In CNE Play

For their second contest against the Endicott College Gulls this season, Gordon College Women's Basketball welcomed their cross-town rivals on Kanas Court today in Conference of New England (CNE) play where the Gulls used a strong second half to beat the Fighting Scots, 69-43.

Gordon's Woynitu Ciccarello netted 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, Naomi Nicholson added nine points and six boards, while Ami Rivera contributed seven points and seven boards.

For the Gulls, Emma Shinney led the way with 17 points, Sarah Dempsey had a double-double with 14 points and as many rebounds, while Libby Fleming chipped in 10 points and seven boards.

How It Happened
  • After Endicott took an early 4-3 edge, Sophie Peters and Leah McGarvey hit two straight buckets to go on top, 7-4 midway through the frame. Locked up at 11-all with just over to minutes to go, Rivera knocked down a pair of shots with one being from behind the arc to give Gordon a five point lead (16-11). Endicott closed the gap to trail by just one after the first quarter.
  • In the second quarter, both sides kept it tight in the early minutes before the Gulls locked it out down the stretch to go up, 32-25 at halftime.
  • Endicott started off strong in the third and used that momentum to pull away, taking a commanding lead heading into the fourth quarter and never letting up to claim the win.
