Hawks Defend Their Nest From Scots

Gordon College Women's Basketball headed south to West Hartford, Conn. in their return to conference play against the Hartford Hawks. Despite an impressive afternoon beyond the arc for the Fighting Scots, the Hawks claimed a 81-56 victory on their home court.

Brynn Barnhard led the Fighting Scots shooting 80% from the three point line with 12 points and three rebounds, Naomi Nicholson posted 11 points shooting 75% from the three alongside five assists and three steals, Woynitu Ciccarello knocked down ten points.

For the Hawks, Lauren Sabia scored 24 points and six rebounds, Emma O'Hare put up 13 points, while Ava Naszimento scored ten.

How It Happened
  • Leah McGarvey started hot draining a jumper and soon after knocking down a three to score the Scots' first five points. The Hawks went on a run to end the first taking a 22-9 lead.
  • Abby Chewning nailed a three early in the second quarter. Brynn Barnhard followed Chewning with a three of her own to give the Scots 15 points. Barnhard hit another three, jump starting a Scots' run to bring the game back within ten points. Jayme Kiser converted a layup and hit a three during the Scots' run. The Hawks held on to close the half with a 43-28 lead over the Scots.
  • Ami Rivera setup Naomi Nicholson beyond the arc for the Scots first points of the second half. Barnhard hit her third three of the game to the quarter.
  • Barnhard continued her hot streak from downtown hitting her fourth three pointer on four attempts. Nicholson drained a pair of three's of her own. Woynitu Ciccarello ended the game for the Scots with a three and a shifty layup in the paint. The Hawks took a 81-56 win over the Scots.

  • Brynn Barnhard hit a career high four three pointers.
  • The Fighting Scots travel to Boston on Tuesday, January 7 to tip off against the Suffolk Rams.
