WENHAM, Mass.- The Gordon College women's basketball team fell 81-44 to Bowdoin Friday afternoon at the Bennett Center in the matinee contest of the Gordon Classic. The Polar Bears began the year ranked No. 3 in the WBCA Preseason Poll and No. 5 in the D3Hoops.com Preseason Poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bowdoin raced out to a 21-10 lead after 10 minutes of action.
- The visitors netted 16 points in the second quarter while limiting the home side to four points to hold a 37-14 advantage at the half.
- The Polar Bears outscored the Fighting Scots 30-15 in the third to widen the gap to 67-29.
- Gordon chalked up 15 points in the fourth period while Bowdoin tallied 14 points en route to a season-opening win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Leah McGarvey (Harrisburg, Pa.) poured in a game-high 14 points.
- Woynitu Ciccarello (East Haddam, Conn.) scored 10 points to go with five boards.
- Abby Chewning (Beverly, Mass.) added five points while Isabella Rivera (Concord, N.H.) chipped in with four points.
- Sophie Peters (Sidney, Mont.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- Gordon shot 34.1% from the floor and 31.6% from beyond the three-point line.
- Bowdoin finished with a field-goal percentage of 41.9% while draining 12-of-32 from long distance.
- Maria Belardi netted a team-best 12 points to lead the Polar Bears' balanced offense. Grace Kinum and Abbie Quinn both scored 10 points on the afternoon.
