Scots Cruise Past Bucs In Statement Win

Despite the rainy conditions, Gordon College Softball was still able to take the field today after a delayed start to play the Carroll University Pioneers and the Beloit College Buccaneers. The Fighting Scots nearly pulled off a come from behind win against Carroll, before keeping the offense hot in a 18-6 win over Beloit.

Gordon vs. Carroll
  • Lauren Parker hit one right back up the middle in the home half of the first to bring home Emily Peterson who led the inning off with a bunt single down the third base line.
  • Carroll matched the Scots' run total in the third before widening the gap to 7-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • Samantha Perkins led off the final at bat for the Scots with a walk, followed by two sacrifice bunt opportunities where the visitors could not record an out. Two runs later (7-3), Ami Rivera laced a double to left center to score Peterson (7-4) which forced a pitching change. Carroll was able to record two straight outs, but the blue and white continued to battle. Caoimhe Wensing knocked in Rivera with an infield single, then Gordon nearly came all the way back thanks to a Perkins single up the middle but Carroll was able to escape the threat for the one-run win.
Gordon vs. Beloit
  • The Scots kept their bats hot in the nightcap, batting through the order in the top of the first inning to put a five-spot on the board. Beloit came back with two of their own in the bottom of the frame, but Gordon kept on dominating.
  • Lizzie DeRusha and Emily Graham opened the third with back-to-back doubles to ignite the high-scoring inning. Then, with Peterson and Rivera on the bases, Parker stepped into the box and belted a shot over the left field fence to put Gordon ahead, 12-2. To cap off the third, Marsala Vouriotis singled to center field to bring home DeRusha and make it 13-2.
  • Rivera, Hailey Conde, and Parker passed the hot bat for three straight doubles in the fourth to score another three runs, before adding two more in the fifth. Gordon kept the Buccaneers at bay to end the game early, 18-6.
  • Junior Graham allowed five earned runs in 4.0 innings of work from the circle for her first win of the season.
Beyond The Box Score
  • This marks the first win of the Head Coach Lily Rivera era.
  • Sophomore Lauren Parker knocked out her first dinger of her collegiate career against Beloit.
  • The Scots' 18 runs is the most the program has scored in a game since 2019.
  • Marsala Vouriotis booked her first collegiate hits with two against Beloit.
  • A program record of 25 hits in a single game was set this evening.
  • Gordon returns to play tomorrow, March 11 with a game against Ohio Christian and Widener at Diamondplex.
