Scots Fly Past Eagles On Final Day In Florida

Stepping on that Florida dirt for the final time this morning, Gordon College Softball squared off against Edgewood College before playing Hope College at Legends Way Ball Fields. The Fighting Scots bested the Edgewood Eagles, 9-3 and lost to the Anchors of Hope, 9-0.

Gordon vs. Edgewood
  • With runners on second and third in the top of the second, pitcher Emily Graham got the Fighting Scots out of a jam to keep the visitors off the board.
  • After the Scots used a game of small ball to cause havoc on the infield, Gordon's Makayla Falco and Ami Rivera each roped RBI-singles to make it a 4-0 ball game going into the third.
  • As the visitors were knocking on the door and scored once in the fourth, Marsala Vouriotis made a difficult catch in right center field to limit the damage and end the inning.
  • Mackenzie Murray executed a perfectly placed bunt to score the first run of the fifth inning. Then, Samantha Perkins stepped into the box and blooped an RBI-single down the right field line to score another run. Gordon added one more after another fielding error from Edgewood (7-2).
  • In the top of the sixth, the Eagles had bases juiced and a power hitter up to bat. However, Emily Peterson made a diving catch to end the inning and keep the score to 7-3.
  • Mackenzie Murray belted a shot deep to left center field to plate two more teammates as the Scots earned the 9-3 win.
Gordon vs. Hope
  • Hope started off the home half of the first with two runs before putting up a four spot in the second to hold the 6-0 advantage.
  • Relief pitcher Caoimhe Wernsing quieted Hope's offense through just over two innings, before the Anchors came around to score to end the game early.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Ami Rivera has now hit safely in nine straight games.
  • Mackenzie Murray connected on her first hits today as a Fighting Scot, including a 2-RBI double.
  • The Fighting Scots will travel home tomorrow and will look to next Friday, March 21 for a home twin bill against Lasell starting at 2 p.m. at Gordon.
