Scots Sweep Seahawks In Exciting Home-Opener

Gordon College Softball stepped onto their home dirt for the first time this season to host the Salve Regina Seahawks on a beautiful sunny day where the Fighting Scots swept the visitors, 5-4 and 4-0.

Game One
  • Salve Regina started hot offensively, scoring two in the first and one in the second to lead, 3-0. The Sehawks' pitcher kept the Fighting Scots off balance for five straight innings to eventually lead, 4-0.
  • With Ami Rivera and Emily Peterson on first and second, Hailey Conde fooled the defense and put down a fantastic slap bunt through the shift to score Rivera for Gordon's first run of the day (4-1). With Graham in the box, Conde created havoc on the defense and after a handful of run downs, Peterson scored from third (4-2). Samantha Perkins then grounded out to short stop to plate pinch runner Peyton Heitzman home (4-3). The Scots continued to pass off the baton as Madison Murray doubled to left center and came around to tie up the ball game after a Lauren Parker single up the middle (4-4).
  • Graham continued to be a steady presence for Gordon in the circle, allowing just one hit in the top of the seventh to leave the Scots in position to walk it off in the bottom of the inning.
  • Rivera led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple down the right field line to put her just 60 feet away from winning the game. After Peterson got on first by way of a walk, Conde was in the box and saw a wild pitch come in as Rivera slid into home to win secure the come from behind victory.
