Scots Walk It Off Twice For CNE Sweep

Gordon College Baseball hosted the Wentworth Leopards for a double-header in their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots hit a thrilling walk-off home run in the 10th to win the first game 9-8. The Scots matched the adrenaline rush from the first with another walk-off in the second game, winning 6-5.

Game One
  • The Leopards put up the first two scores of the game with a run in the first and the third.
  • In the bottom of the third, Joey Kazlauskas ripped a double to left field to start the Scots' climb out of a two out hole. Tyler Wilson singled a ball through the middle, sending in the Scots' first run (2-1). Robert Dunkle cracked another double to tie the game 2-2.  Evan Clark hit a double of his own to send in the Scots' lead taking third run (3-2).
  • In the top of the fourth, the Scots' defense grounded a double play to set up a nasty Jack Birtwell pitch resulting in the third out.
  • CJ Demers sent two Scots across home plate in the sixth with a single to right field (5-2).
  • The Leopards went on a roll, scoring six runs and held a 8-5 lead going into the bottom of the ninth.
  • Wilson started the Scots' ascent with a homer that brought two runners in to bring the score to 8-7. A pass ball brought Dunkle in for the tying run (8-8) and extended the game to a tenth inning.
  • The Scots' defense shutdown the Leopards, allowing zero runs to setup the offense in the bottom of the tenth.
  • First up at bat in the bottom of the tenth, Jonathan McIntyre stepped into the batters box having seen enough. He hit a walk-off rocket over the fence to hand deliver a Scots' 9-8 win.
Game Two
  • History repeated as the Leopards took the first two score of the game (2-0).
  • Gabe Fales batted in the Scots' first run with a single to left center. Ben Marciano batted in two more runs, bringing the Scots up 3-2.
  • The blue and white lead increased to 4-2 after Demers sent in another runner in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Leopards regained the lead in the seventh with three runs (5-4).
  • Still 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth, the Scots found themselves in another pressure filled ending. Fales escalated the drama with a game tying single through the left side (5-5).
  • With tensions rising, Marciano connected on an ice cold bunt to walk the Scots off with a 6-5 win, sweeping the Leopards.
