Game Recap: Baseball |

Scots March Through Colonels In Another CNE Sweep

Gordon College Baseball stepped on the dirt this afternoon for a Conference of New England (CNE) doubleheader against the Curry College Colonels on the road. The Fighting Scots earned their second CNE sweep of the young season, 4-1 and 6-5.

Game One
  • Curry got on the board in the bottom half of the first inning, but it was all Gordon after that, as the Fighting Scots scored three times in the third to lead, 3-1.
  • In the seventh, CJ Demers laced a singled to left field to score teammate Gabe Fales and earn the eventual 4-1 win.
  • Jack Birtwell went the distance from the rubber, scattering only thee hits and tallying 11 strikeouts.
Game Two
  • The Colonels once again were the first team to cross home plate, but the blue and white didn't let that disrupt them. With two down in the bottom of the second, Fales hit a double to the right center gap to score two before the rookie came around to score shortly after thanks to a Ben Marciano single (3-2).
  • Curry tacked on two in the bottom of the third to once again go on top (4-3).
  • Gordon rallied in the sixth to recapture the lead after Evan Clark brought home Demers and Marciano (5-4).
  • Looking to secure the sweep, the Colonels had other plans and scored in the bottom of the seventh to force extras.
  • With two outs, Jonathan McIntyre was hit by a pitch to take first before quickly moving into scoring position after stealing second. Hunter Normandin singled to center which brought home a speedy McIntyre to give Gordon the go ahead run. Gordon was steady on defense in the bottom of the ninth to end the game with a 543 double play.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Hunter Normandin registered his second three-hit game of his rookie season.
  • Brett Moore continues to lead the Scots with a team-high four wins this season.
  • Jack Birtwell pitched Gordon's first complete game in game one today. Birtwell also recorded an impressive 11 strikeouts in just seven innings for a career-high.
  • The Scots take a break from CNE action and will face the Rhode Island College Anchormen on Tuesday, April 1 at home.
