Bison Contain Scots In CNE Action

Gordon College Softball took on the Bison of Nichols College this afternoon for a Conference of New England (CNE) doubleheader. The Bison pulled away in game one by a score of 7-3 and were able to hang on for the extra inning game two 6-4 win.

Game One
  • After a scoreless first frame, Nichols scored a run before the Fighting Scots ended the inning with a double play.
  • In the bottom of the second, Lizzie DeRusha put down a sacrifice bunt to move two runners into scoring position. However, after the out was made, the Nichols' defense attempted to pick off the runner at second, but the ball rolled all the way to the fence to put the Scots on top, 2-1.
  • The Bison extended the inning in the third to plate two more runs before knocking out a pair of home runs in the fifth to secure the victory.
Game Two
  • Nichols' strung together four hits in the top of the first inning to put a three spot on the board.
  • Gordon answered back in the bottom of the inning as Makayla Falco led off the frame with a single before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Next batter up, Ami Rivera belted a shot to the left field fence to put runners on second and third with no outs. Samantha Perkins reached on a fielder's choice as Falco came around the score (3-1). Emily Graham sent Rivera home on a ground out to second, followed by smart base running from Perkins to lock it up at 3-3.
  • It was a pitcher's duel through four scoreless innings before each squad scored once in the sixth to make it 4-4.
  • Extra innings were required and the Bison loaded up the bases and crossed the plate twice to take their lead into the bottom of the eighth and escape with the sweep.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Hailey Conde registered her third three-hit performance of the season in game one.
  • In four of the last five games, Makayla Falco has had at least one hit.
  • Ami Rivera had connected for two hits in five of the last eight games.
  • The Scots have a quick turnaround as they welcome the Rams of Suffolk University tomorrow, April 11 with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
