Demers Breaks Program Home Run Record In Narrow Loss To Rams

For their second non-conference game in as many days, Gordon College Baseball welcomed the Framingham State Rams to J. Tec White Field where the Rams orchestrated a comeback in the ninth to take the 8-7 win over the Fighting Scots.

How It Happened
  • With Jonathan McIntyre on first after a lead-off single, CJ Demers stepped into the right hand batter's box and belted out his second homer of the season and 18th in his career to put the Fighting Scots on top, 2-0. In the same inning, Gabe Fales hit a single to bring Hunter Normandin home (3-0).
  • The Scots added to their three-run lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt from Ben Marciano (4-0).
  • Starting southpaw Sullivan Quirk worked himself out of a jamĀ in the fifth with the Rams looking to put a few runs on the board. However,Ā the rookie won the battle for the second out of the inning with a strikeout before ending the frame with a fly out to left to keep the Rams off the board.
  • Evan Clark made it 5-0 in favor of Gordon with a sharply hit double down the left field line to score Tyler Wilson (5-0).Ā
  • Framingham State kept the inning alive in the sixth and made the most of it with a three-run shot over the right field fence to make it a two-run ball game (5-3).
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Fales started it off with a walk before Yandel Pichardo put two ducks on the pond with a pinch hit infield single. Marciano sacrificed himself once again to put both runners in scoring position for the first out of the inning. With two outs, Demers laced a single up the middle to score both Fales and Pichardo to gain back a more comfortable lead (7-3).
  • The Rams chipped away and scored one run in the seventh and eighth to trail by just two runs going into the top of the ninth where the visitors put a three spot on the board to pull off the comeback win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • CJ Demers is now Gorodn College Baseball's all time career home run leader with 18.
  • Rookie Gabe Fales has now extended his hit streak to 10 games.
  • In two out of the last three games, Tyler Wilson has registered a two-hit game.
  • The Scots return to conference action this weekend (weather permitting) as they travel to Bristol, R.I. to play Roger Williams.
