Scots Celebrate Senior Day In Sweep Of Terriers

Gordon College Softball welcomed the Terriers of Thomas College to their home field as the Fighting Scots celebrated Senior Day. The Scots celebrated in style with a sweep over the Terriers by scores of 5-4 and 4-3.

Game One
  • Senior Ami Rivera began the afternoon off on the right foot with a rocket over the left field fence to put Gordon up, 1-0.
  • Pitcher Emily Graham spun a scoreless game through four in the circle, while the blue and white added another run thanks to a Mackenzie Murray double (2-0) in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Thomas was able to cause a bit of confusion in the fifth and scored a pair (2-2) before Gordon regained the lead after a Samantha Perkins sac fly in the bottom of the frame (3-2).
  • In their final chance at the plate, Thomas led the seventh off with a triple and was able to come around to lock up the score at 3-3.
  • After a scoreless eighth inning, Thomas went on top by one (4-3) heading into the bottom of the ninth.
  • With the bases loaded, Caoimhe Wernsing belted a double to right center field to plate Emily Peterson and Murray to walk it off for the Scots.
Game Two
  • Both sides were held scoreless for the first two innings of game two, but the home team erupted for four runs in the third. Peterson led off the inning with a walk and quickly moved over to second after a Madison Murray single through the left side. Rivera hit a bloop single to right center to score the first run of the game. Graham stepped up next for a sac fly (2-0). Perkins then roped a two-run homer to left field to widen the gap to 4-0.
  • The visitors began to chip away in the fourth with one run, followed by a two-run fifth inning. However, the home team buckled down as Graham came in for the save to secure their second victory of the afternoon.
  • Through the first three innings, Katie Melendy allowed just three hits and one run for her third win of the season.
