Gordon College Men's Track & Field hosted the Conference of New England (CNE) Track & Field Championship today at the Brigham Athletic Complex. The Fighting Scots earned third place after orchestrating a team score of 128. Hartford took the crown with a score of 167, followed by Roger Williams who were the runners up (153).
Friday
- Daniel Chewning opened up the Championship with a new Gordon long jump record of 6.77m for the first gold medal for the blue and white. Teammate William Hughes came out with a silver in his Championship debut with his jump of 6.52m.Â
- In the high jump, Hughes' jump of 1.90m earned the rookie bronze.Â
Saturday-Track Events
- The 4x100m relay team comprised of Henry Lonstein, Daniel Chewning, Keenan Jones, and Justin Herzog more than earned their gold medals in a thrilling relay to break a school record with a time of 43.11.
- Josef Schultz rolled to a second place finish thanks to a time of 4:07.79 in the 1500m.
- Daniel Erikson and William Hughes roared across the line in the 110m hurdles to take eighth and ninth place, respectively (16.25, 16.41).
- Rookie Rolen Sanderson ran his way to a gold medal as the clock read 50.33 in the 400m.
- Teammates Chewning and Lonstein barreled down the line in the 100m dash for gold and silver for yet another one-two punch from the Fighting Scots (10.90, 11.02). Chewning tied his own school record with his time. Also landing in the top-10 was Herzog who came in seventh place (11.43).
- A pair of Scots found their times in the 800m top-10 as Schultz's time of 2:00.33 earned fifth, while Jacob Dyer's time of 2:01.03 put him in seventh.
- Peter McGinn orchestrated a new school record in the 400m hurdles as the junior's time of 57.04 broke his own school record which he set last season. Erikson and Tait earned eighth and ninth (59.10, 59.24).
- Chewning and Lonstein once again battled neck and neck, this time in the 200m for times of 21.78 and 22.25, respectively. The dynamic duo's times earned the pair gold and silver. Herzog crossed the line just inside the top-10 in ninth (23.34).
- Wrapping up the afternoon today was the 4x400m relay team Sanderson, Lonstein, McGinn, and Chewning who pulled away with the gold placed finished with a time of 3:22.78 for yet another school record.
Saturday-Field Events
- Hughes secured his third medal of the weekend thanks to a triple jump of 13.24m to take silver. Hughes smashed his own Gordon record with his jump.
- Noah Prince launched the discus 38.72m to rank fifth while Dylan Curtis claimed 10th place (32.30).
Sweeping the CNE top performances for the blue and white were
William Hughes and
Daniel Chewning who were awarded the most outstanding field and track performers, respectively.
Additionally,
Peter McGinn took home the inaugural CNE Elite 20 award for his standout performances in the classroom and on the track.Â
