Women’s Soccer Topped by Nationally-Ranked Tufts, 2-1

WENHAM, Mass.- The Gordon College women's soccer team absorbed a 2-1 loss to Tufts in non-conference play Tuesday evening. The Jumbos entered the match ranked No. 8 in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tufts established a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 28th minute. Maren Jones knocked in her first goal of the season off of a cross by Elsi Aires.
  • Gordon pulled even at 1-1 in the 59th minute as Eowyn Lapp (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) buried her team-leading fourth marker of the year.
  • The Jumbos reclaimed a one-score advantage in the 70th minute, 2-1. Caroline Kelly netted her first goal of the season while Waverly Sumner and Jordyn Miller both picked up assists.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Eowyn Lapp (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) paced the home side with five shots while Olivia Thornton (Westfield, N.J.) fired one shot.
  • Emily Bengtson (Anthem, Ariz.) chalked up five saves in her second start of the season.
  • Gordon concluded the game with six shot attempts while Tufts produced 16 shots on the night.
