Clutch Free Throws Propel Men’s Hoops to Crucial Win at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I.- Junior Ryan Brooks (Dudley, Mass.) drained a pair of free throws with four seconds on the clock as the Gordon College men's basketball team clinched an important 77-76 victory at Roger Williams Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Gordon grabbed a 22-17 lead with 6:26 left to play in the first half as Isaac Jarvis (Concord, N.H.) capped off a three-point play at the charity stripe.
  • After Roger Williams knotted the contest at 32-32 with 21 seconds to go in the opening frame, Alex Daniel (Nolensville, Tenn.) splashed a three-pointer before the horn to give the Fighting Scots a 35-32 edge at the halftime break.
  • The home side constructed a nine-point advantage with 13:29 remaining in regulation, 53-44.
  • The visitors clawed back to level the score at 71-71 with 2:29 on the clock as Alex Daniel (Nolensville, Tenn.) canned a trey.
  • With the Hawks clinging to a 76-73 edge heading into the final minute of play, Ryan Brooks (Dudley, Mass.) banked in a layup to trim the deficit to one before putting Gordon ahead by one with two free throws in the waning seconds.
  • Roger Williams' last-second shot sailed wide of the rim as the Fighting Scots claimed a narrow but pivotal victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Alex Daniel (Nolensville, Tenn.) poured in a career-high 26 points.
  • Ryan Brooks (Dudley, Mass.) netted 20 points and hauled in nine boards.
  • Isaac Jarvis (Concord, N.H.) registered his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
  • Bruce McGuire (Bristol, R.I.) added six points and five rebounds off the bench.
  • Gordon finished with a field-goal percentage of 39.3% while knocking down 6-of-22 from beyond the arc.
  • Roger Williams shot 43.9% from the floor and 21.4% from three-point range.
  • Finn Miller paced the Hawks with 26 points while Ryan Hammarlund notched 14 points and Owen Boudria chipped in with 12 points.
