WINTER HAVEN, Fla.- The Gordon College softball team dropped a narrow 9-8 decision to Albertus Magnus before claiming a come-from-behind victory over Washington (Md.) Monday afternoon at THE Spring Games.
GORDON vs. ALBERTUS MAGNUS
THE BASICS:
Score: Gordon 8, Albertus Magnus 9
Records: Fighting Scots (1-4) | Falcons (2-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Albertus Magnus rattled off three runs in the top of the first inning to grab an early 3-0 edge.
- Gordon got on the board in the bottom of the frame to trim the deficit to 3-1.
- The Falcons chalked up six runs in the second to extend their advantage to 9-1.
- The Fighting Scots produced four runs in the home half of the third inning to narrow the margin to 9-5.
- Gordon plated a pair of runs in the fourth to shrink the gap to 9-7.
- The Fighting Scots picked up a run in the fifth inning to make it a one-run contest, 9-8.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Peyton Heitzman (Champlin, Minn.) notched two base hits and three RBIs.
- Isabella Rivera (Concord, N.H.) finished with two hits, two runs scored, one RBI, and a stolen base.
- Emily Hutchins (Kennebunkport, Maine) scored two runs and landed one base knock.
- Katie Melendy (Easton, Mass.) made her second start of the year and fanned one batter. Lizzie DeRusha (Nashua, N.H.), Kassie Snowman (St. Albans, Maine), and Emilie Adelmann (Upland, Calif.) all made relief appearances in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Gordon captured a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning.
- Washington answered with one run in the second to level the contest at 1-1.
- The Fighting Scots tallied one run in the third inning to regain a one-run edge, 2-1.
- Gordon tacked on two runs in the fifth to stretch the margin to 4-1.
- The Shorewomen picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth frame to cut the deficit to 4-2.
- Washington produced four runs in the sixth to seize a 6-4 advantage.
- Gordon rallied to score four runs in the top of the seventh inning to reclaim the lead, 8-6. After Emily Hutchins (Kennebunkport, Maine) crossed the dish on a wild pitch to tie the game, Samantha Perkins (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Zoey Moscato (Chelmsford, Mass.) roped two-out RBI base hits to put the Fighting Scots back in front.
