Hello Fighting Scots fans and welcome to the final Coach's Corner for the 2025–26 men's basketball season. I'm sorry about not getting this out sooner, since our last two games were a couple of weeks ago, but I still wanted to let you know how the season ended, and to talk about our Senior Night. I will try to write a couple more 'Coach's Corners' during the off-season to keep you updated with things happening within the team and recruiting.
This past week we had our last two games of the season. Our first one was last Tuesday at Curry College for their senior night. It was literally a must-win game for us in order to keep our playoff hopes alive. We played very well, the first half, and started the second half with the same momentum. With 11 minutes to go in the game, we were leading 65–49, but that's when Curry caught fire and started hitting shots from everywhere. With just under four minutes to go, we found ourselves trailing 70–72. It was a dogfight the rest of the way, and in the end, we lost 98-108 in double overtime, ending our playoff hopes.
Alex Daniel led the way with 23 points, followed by
Isaac Jarvis with 20 points and eight rebounds, and
Ryan Brooks with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
In our second game of the week, and our last game of the season, we faced off against Suffolk University. Although we were officially eliminated from playoff contention, it was still an important game, because it was Senior Night. Unfortunately, Ryan was unavailable for the game due to re-injuring his broken thumb. I would love to say it was a fairy-tale ending with our seniors winning their final game in their career, but Suffolk had other plans. We lost 63–76, but our team played very hard and honored our seniors with a great effort. On a happy note, our seniors played very well in their final game in a Scots uniform.
Sean Quanico led us in scoring with 18 points, including 4–8 from three-point range, and also added five rebounds and five assists.
Bruce McGuire finished with 14 points on 7–8 from the field. Our fourth-year senior
Isaac Jarvis, finished his career with an emphatic slam dunk near the end of the game, and finished with another double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds. In a perfect world, we would've won the game, but I loved the energy of our team, and our seniors playing very well in their final game.
Our season is now over, and it obviously didn't end the way we had hoped.
Our final record was 7–18, and we have a lot of work during the off-season to get ready for great improvement next season. Coach Bugler and I will turn most of our attention to recruiting the next class of Gordon College basketball players. I would like to thank all of you who supported us throughout this season, and ask that you pray for our team to make great improvements both on and off the court for the 2026–27 season.
Speaking of our seniors, please find below the script from senior night that speaks briefly about our three wonderful seniors. Thanks again for your love and support.
Welcome to Senior Day 2026. We have 3 seniors on this year's squad that we would like you to help us celebrate today.
Our first senior is Bruce McGuire. Bruce transferred to Gordon College last year after spending his first two years at Indiana Wesleyan College. Bruce has played a big part on the court during his two years here, scoring 218 points and grabbing 139 rebounds in 41 games. He has career highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Bruce has been a great leader for our team and was unanimously voted as a captain by his teammates for this season. His work ethic and toughness have made his teammates better players, but it's his heart for the Lord and his love for others that has made his teammates better people. Bruce will receive his degree in Kinesiology from Gordon in May.
Bruce is joined today by his mom and dad, Rachel and Jake McGuire, and his brother Ian. Please put your hands together for Bruce McGuire.
Our next senior is Sean Quanico. Sean played for one year at George Fox University before transferring to Gordon 3 years ago. Sean has been a key contributor during his 3 years at Gordon, scoring 450 points and dishing out 148 assists. He has also drained 62 3-point shots during his time at Gordon. Sean's career best game came against Nichols when he scored 21 points and hit five 3-point shots. Sean is well respected by his teammates, being named captain the last two seasons. He is a great young man with an infectious smile and laugh. His impact in the locker room will be missed. Sean will graduate in May with a degree in social welfare.
Sean is being accompanied by his parents, Elma and James Quanico, and his older brothers Jason and Zachary. Please give a warm welcome to Sean Quanico.
Our final senior for the evening is Isaac Jarvis. The 6'8 big man from New Hampshire has had a stellar career in his 4 years at Gordon. In his time as a Fighting Scot, Isaac has scored 715 points and pulled down 445 rebounds. This season he established career highs averaging 11.7 points and 6.7 rebounds. He also set single game career highs this year scoring 24 points against Johnson and Wales, and grabbing 15 rebounds and blocking 4 shots versus Lasell. Off the court, Isaac is a big Teddy Bear with a great sense of humor. Isaac will graduate this Spring with his degree in Kinesiology.
Joining Isaac today will be his parents, Skip and Avonne Jarvis, and his older brother Patrick. Please give it up for Isaac Jarvis!
God Bless,
Coach Murphy
